Ingredients

  • 2 cups Mixed Daals (toover, masoor, chana and yellow moong daal) 1 Onion (chopped) 3 Tomatoes (chopped) Salt 1/2 tsp Chilli powder 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp Cummin powder 1/4 tsp Garam masala 1 Tamarind Baghaar/Tempering: 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp Cummin seeds Few Fenugreek seeds 1 tbsp Garlic (pounded) 1/2 tsp Ginger (pounded) Hing (pinch) Few Curry leaves

Directions

  • 1) Boil daals, with, tamarind, salt and water till tender 2) In a pot put two tablespoons of ghee and oil 3) Braise onions in it till pinkish brown add tomatoes and spices and make paste like 4) Add boiled daal and mix well, let it boil once and keep off flame 5) In a small pan put a tablespoon of ghee and keep on flame 6) As it heats up add the tempering ingredients and let it splutter and nice aroma arises put on daal and cover it 7) Also do smoke/tadka of chillies: make a foil bowl put a teaspoon of ghee in it add three to four dried red chillies then lower red hot charcoal on it and lower in the daal pot and close lid 8} Make sure you don’t inhale the smoke, should be fast 9) While serving heat up daal and mix the tadka then garnish with chopped corriander leaves and green chillies NB: chillies tadka can be done in tempering the daal too
