Ingredients

Serves : 4
  • 1 cup Horse Gram (gahat or kulath)


  • 1/2 cup Oil (preferably mustard oil)


  • 5 cloves of Garlic


  • 1/2 inch Ginger


  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds


  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida


  • 1/2 tsp dry coriander powder


  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder


  • 3 cups water


  • Salt to taste


  • 1 tsp Ghee


  • 2 green chilli


  • 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves

Directions

  • Soak the horse gram in water overnight.
  • In the morning wash and rub the dal in running water so that it is free of seed covering (chilka)
  • Then transfer to the mixi jar and grind it into a dry thick paste .
  • Grind it additionally adding green chilli, garlic and Ginger in the mixer.
  • Place a tawa on medium flame, put some oil.
  • Once oil is heat, make thick pancakes like Cutlets from the dal paste.
  • Use only half of the paste for making pancakes (Cutlets).
  • Now mix water with remaining paste making it pouring consistency.
  • After heat the oil in pan , add cumin seeds and hing.
  • Now add horse gram paste, turmeric powder, dry coriander powder and Salt according taste.
  • Cover and cook for about 10 minutes on low flame.
  • Add the horse gram cakes to the gravy and continue to simmer for another 10 mins.
  • The gravy should have pouring consistency. If too thick add some more water then heat until it boils.
  • Lastly add pure ghee and chopped coriander leaves.
  • Now enjoy with hot Steamed Rice.
