  • 1 cup Whole black lentils (sabut urad)

  • 1 tbsp Ginger paste

  • 1 tbsp Garlic paste

  • 1.1/2 cup tomato purée

  • 1 tbsp Chilli powder

  • 1 tbsp Roasted cumin seeds powder

  • 1 cup Fresh cream

  • 2 tsp Garam masala powder

  • 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves

  • 150 gm butter

  • 1 tsp oil

  • Salt to taste


  • In a mixing bowl take whole black lentils clean and wash thoroughly.
  • Add enough water and Soak it about 8-10 hours.
  • In a pressure cooker add soaked whole black lentils, salt, 1 tsp oil and water to boil until they are well cooked.
  • In another pan heat the 100 gm butter allow to melt it do not burn it
  • Add Ginger and Garlic paste stir well.
  • Now add tomato purée saute well they turns to thick consistency.
  • Next Add cooked whole urad, some water then mix well and allow to boil them.
  • When they starts boil add chilli powder, roasted cumin powder mix well.
  • Next add salt according to the taste and add 1 cup cream mix well.
  • Further Add Garam masala mix well.
  • Now boil it for 5 mins until they well combination with all together.
  • Lastly add fresh cream 1 tbsp and chopped coriander leaves.
  • Finally Dal Pakhtooni is ready. and Serve hot with Rice.
