Ingredients

Serves : 3
  • 25u0 gms Chicken


  • 1/4 cup Toor dal


  • 1.5 cup basmati rice


  • 1 small bay leaf


  • 1 small cinnamon stick


  • 3 green cardamom


  • 4 cloves


  • 2 onion thinly sliced


  • 1 tomato thinly sliced


  • 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste


  • 2 green chilly whole


  • 1 small pinch turmeric powder


  • 1/4 tsp chilly powder


  • 1/2 tsp garam Masala powder


  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder


  • 3 tbsp curd


  • 1 tbsp salt or as per taste


  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves


  • 3 tbsp oil


  • 2 and 1/4 cup water approx


  • For Cucumber Bell Pepper Raita : 1 cup curd / yogurt


  • 1 small english cucumber chopped


  • 1/2 cup yellow and green bell pepper chopped


  • 1 small onion chopped


  • 1-2 green chilly chopped

Directions

  • Wash the basmati rice and dal and soak them in some water and keep aside. 
  • In a pressure cooker heat the oil. Add the whole spices and let it crackle. 
  • Add ginger garlic paste, onion, green chillies and saute for a min. Add tomatoes and saute for a min. 
  • Add the masala powders and mix well. Add the chicken, salt to taste, curd and mix well. Cover and cook for about 5-10 mins. 
  • Meantime while cooking the chicken, you can make ready the raita. Take the curd and beat it with a spoon to make it smooth. Add the remaining ingredients, mix well, garnish with mint sprig and keep aside. 
  • Now add the soaked rice and dal, chopped coriander leaves, water and pressure cook for 3 whistles and take off the heat. 
  • Let the pressure release by itself. Open and fluff it with a fork and serve with raita. I served it hot with cucumber bell pepper raita.
