  • 2 cup cleaned and washed Red Pigeon Peas

  • 1 large onion finely chopped

  • 1 tomato purée

  • 1 tsp Ginger garlic paste

  • 1 tsp garam masala

  • 1 tsp cumin powder

  • 1 tsp coriander powder

  • 1 tbsp Curry Powder

  • 1 pinch asafoetida

  • 6 Curry leaves

  • 3 tbsp Sunflower oil

  • 1.1/2 tbsp Red chilli powder

  • 1 tsp green chilli paste

  • Salt to taste

  • 3 tbsp chopped coriander leaves

  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds

  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder

  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds


  • In a mixing bowl add cleaned n washed red pigeon Peas, add enough water to it. Soak for 2 hours or overnight.
  • Next pressure cook for 5 whistles then cool and drain it well.
  • Heat the oil in pan, once oil is heat sufficiently.
  • Add mustard seeds, hing, Curry leaves and Cumin seeds , allow to splutter them.
  • Add Ginger garlic paste saute until raw smell disappears.
  • Now add green chilli paste and finely chopped Onions saute they becomes translucent.
  • Add tomato puree and stir continuously on low to medium flame. They turns soft n mushy.
  • Further add all spices like turmeric, chilli powder, garam masala, cumin n coriander powder, saute till aromatic on low flame.
  • After add boiled Pigeon Peas, Curry powder and salt according to taste mix well. cover and simmer for 3-4 mins.
  • Additionally add chopped coriander leaves. mix well.
  • Finally enjoy the Masala Pigeon Peas Curry with chapati, rice etc.
