Ingredients

Serves : 3
  • 1 cup whole green moong dal


  • 1/2 cup onion chopped


  • 1/2 cup tomato chopped


  • 1/4 cup coriander leaves chopped


  • 1 tsp cumin seeds


  • 1 tsp coriander seeds


  • 1 tsp garam masala powder


  • 1 bay leaf


  • 2 tbsp oil


  • 1 tbsp ghee


  • 1 tsp crushed ginger


  • 1 tsp turmeric powder


  • 1 tsp chili powder


  • 1 tbsp salt or as per taste


  • 1-2 cups water , use as required

Directions

  • Pressure cook the dal for 1-2 whistles.
  • Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin, coriander and bay leaf and let it crackle.
  • Add chopped onions and saute over medium heat for 4-5 mins or until onion turns brown.
  • Add chopped tomatoes and saute over medium heat for 4-5 mins until it turns mushy and oil starts to separate.
  • Add the pressure cooked dal and cook over high heat for 3-4 mins.
  • Add the garam masala powder, crushed ginger and red chilly powder, mix well and simmer for 10-15 mins.
  • Add the ghee and chopped coriander leaves, give a quick stir and take off the heat.
