Ingredients

Serves : 3
  • 3/4 cup kulith dal /horsegram dal


  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder


  • 1 dry mango


  • 2 tsp tamarind juice


  • 1/2 tsp sat or as per your taste


  • 2-3 tsp Jaggery powder


  • 2 tsp mustard oil (1 tsp 1 tsp)


  • 10-12 cloves of garlic (chopped)


  • 1 small onion chopped


  • 5-6 curry leaves


  • 2 dry red chilli


  • 1 green chilli chopped


  • 1/2 tsp punch phoran 1/4 tsp punch phoran


  • 2-3 cups water

Directions

  • Dry roast the kulith dal for sometime till they become change their colour.
  • Wash the dal in water and then pressure cook the dal with water, salt , turmeric powder and dry mango up-to 5-6 whistles in low flame.
  • After that switch off the flame and allow it cool and then grind the dal ( don't grind the dry mango piece and keep it aside )
  • Heat a Kadai and put oil in it.
  • Add punch phoran in it. When the mustard from the punch phoran crackle then add the chopped onion, chopped garlic cloves along with red red chilli and curry leaves in it.
  • When the onions become transluscent and the raw smell of garlic has gone add the previously grinded dal in it.
  • Add that dry mango piece , tamarind juice, Jaggery powder in it.
  • Allow it to boil for sometime.
  • In the meantime in a tadka pan put 1 tsp oil and add 1/4tsp punch phoran in it and when they crackle add 2-3 curry leaves, red chilli and some chopped garlic in it. When the raw smell of garlic has gone then add this to prepared dal.
  • Now your Khatti Meethi Kulith dal is ready.
  • Serve hot with steam rice or roti.
