Wash and cook lentils with four cups of water, salt and turmeric in a pressure cooker for at least five whistles. Check that the dal is boiled nicely and is blended well. Transfer to a serving dish.
Heat the ghee in a pan (dal tastes great with ghee, not oil), add cumin seeds.
When the cumin seeds begin to splutter, add the green chillies onions till they are nice and golden brown. Now add the tomatoes and stir till the onion and tomatoes blend nicely together.
Add the red chilli powder, stir nicely and pour over the cooked dal.
Sabut masoor dal or brown lentils are ready. Serve hot garnished with chopped coriander leaves. Serve with roti or rice or even bread if you are a bread lover!
