FOR PRESSURE COOKING: 1 cup chana dal, washed
3 cups water
1 tsp oil
½ tsp turmeric powder
1 bay leaf
1 inch cinnamon stick
2 green cardamom
1 black cardamom
2 cloves
1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
½ tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp kashmiri red chilli powder
1/2 tsp Kitchen king masala
½ tsp garam masala
2 tbsp coriander leaves finely chopped
salt to taste
FOR TADKA / TEMPERING:
2 tbsp ghee
1 tsp jeera or Panch phoran
1 onion, finely chopped
2 tomatoes, finely chopped
2 dried red chilli
1 tsp kasuri methi
8_10 curry leaves
Directions
wash and pressure cook dal with all above ingredients except tadka ingredients, for 5 whistles.
In a kadai heat ghee and add zeera or panch phoran. Add curry leaves.
Add chopped onions and saute well for few minutes.
Now add chopped tomatoes and saute well.
now add kasuri methi.
Add in pressure cooked dal and mix well.
Simmer for 6 minutes and pour the tempering / tadka over dal.
Finally, mix the dhaba style dal tadka well and serve with hot steamed rice or roti.
