  • 1/2 cup yellow moong dal

  • 1/2 cup rice

  • 1 1 tbsp desi ghee

  • 1 tsp cumin seeds

  • 1/8 tsp asafoetodia

  • 2 cloves

  • 1 tsp or to taste salt

  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder

  • 1 cup curd (homemade)

  • 1/2 tsp roasted cumin powder

  • 1 chopped cucumber (I round shape)

  • 1 tomato (in sliced)

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper powder

  • 2 green chilly

  • 1 tbsp fresh pomegranate seeds

  • 1 tbsp nimbu chutney

  • 2 roasted papad (chana/ urad /moong)

  • 3 cup water


  • Wash yellow moong dal and rice. Soaked in water for half an hour. Then drain the water.
  • Take a pressure cooker. Heat the ghee on medium flame. Add cumin seeds, asafoetodia and cloves. When it cracked, add soaked dal and rice. Saute for a minute on low flame. Now combine salt, turmeric powder and 3 cup of water. Mix well and close the lid.
  • On high flame apply a whistle and switch off the heat with three whistles on medium flame. Keep aside.
  • In curd add roasted powder and salt. Keep aside.
  • When cooker's pressure is released, open the lid. Saute nicely and mix desi ghee. Delicious, healthy and nutritious KHICHDI is ready to serve.
  • Take out the KHICHDI in serving plate. Serve hot with curd,salad (cucumber, tomato and green chilly) & roasted papad. Garnish with nibu chutney and fresh Pomegranate seeds. ENJOY !!
