Ingredients

Serves : 3
  • 1 cup green moong, whole


  • 1 large onion, chopped


  • 1 heaped tsp ginger-garlic paste


  • 1 tsp turmeric powder


  • 1-1/4 tsp kashmiri red chilli powder


  • 1/2 tsp chana masala powder


  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder


  • 1 tsp salt or to taste


  • Juice of 1/2 lime


  • 2 tbsp olive oil


  • 3 cups water

Directions

  • Soak green moong in warm water for an hour at least.
  • Microwave moong with 2 cups water for 15 minutes, checking in between cooking time for water quantity. If water level goes low, add some more water.
  • Heat oil in microwave safe casserole and microwave for 1 minute on high power.
  • Add ginger-garlic paste, mix well with oil, and microwave on high power for 45 seconds. Stir well.
  • Add onions and stir well so oil coats the onions. Microwave onions on high power for 10 minutes, stirring them every 2-3 minutes.
  • Add all the dry masalas and mix well with onions. Microwave the masala for a minute.
  • Add green moong and mix well with the masala. Add remaining water and stir. Microwave again for 5 minutes till bubbling.
  • Carefully remove from oven and transfer to serving bowls. Serve with rice or roti.
