Spicy Chole Cheese Sandwich

Ingredients

Serves : 4
  • Brown Bread – 4 – 6 Slices


  • Butter – 1-2 tbsp.


  • Grated Processed cheese – 3-4 tbsp.


  • For Chole Masala – Boiled Chickpeas or kabuli chana – 3/4 cup


  • Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp


  • Onion Medium– 1/2 finely chopped


  • Tomato finely chopped – 1 medium


  • Asafoetida – 1/4 tsp


  • Coriander powder – 1/2 tsp


  • Cumin powder – 1/2 tsp


  • Red chilli powder – 1/2 -1 tsp


  • Chole garam masala – 1 tsp


  • Finely chopped coriander – 1/4 cup


  • Green paste – Green chili – 1 finely chopped


  • Garlic – 3-4 sliced


  • Ginger – 1/4 inch


  • Salt to taste


  • Oil – 1 tbsp

Directions

  • Blend green chili, garlic cloves and ginger into coarse paste.
  • In a nonstick pan, heat oil. Add cumin seeds. Let it splutter. Add asafoetida. Stir it.
  • Add finely chopped onion and salt. Cook till translucent.
  • Add green paste. Cook till raw aroma goes away.
  • Add finely chopped tomato and finely chopped coriander leaves. Cook on low flame until they soften and become mushy.
  • Add garam masala or chole masala, coriander powder, cumin powder, Red chili powder. Cook for few seconds.
  • Add boiled, cooked, drained chole. Mix well till it combined well.
  • Mash using a masher. Mix and cook for a few more seconds. Add 2-3 tbsp water if the mixture is too dry. Let it cool for a few minutes.
  • Spread some butter on brown bread slices evenly.
  • Spread mashed spicy chole mixture.
  • Top with some grated cheese. Cover the top with another buttered bread slice.
  • Grill them in Electric or any handheld sandwich maker.
  • Garnish with processed cheese. Cut and serve hot with tomato sauce or any dip.
