Ingredients

Serves : 4
  • 1cup bengal gram /chana dal


  • 1/2cup tomato


  • 1tsp ginger garlic paste


  • 1tsp cumin seeds


  • 1green chilli


  • 1/2tsp mustard seeds


  • 1/4tsp asfoetida


  • 1/2tsp salt or to taste


  • 2tbsp oil


  • 1/4tsp turmeric powder


  • 1tsp red chilli powder


  • 1/2tsp garam masala powder


  • 5-6 curryleaves


  • 2cups water or as needed

Directions

  • wash and soak chanadal for20-25minutes
  • take a cooker heat 1tbsp oil in it add asfoetida and mustard seeds in it
  • add soaked chana dal in it and saute for few minutes
  • add green chilli chopped tomatoes in it mix well and cook
  • add salt turmeric powder and garam masala in it
  • add 1cup water and close lid of cooker and cook up to 4-5whisltes ,let cooker cools down and release its pressure
  • mash dal to a coarse texture with masher
  • heat 1tbsp oil in a tadaka pan add cumin seeds and curry leaves let they crakle remove pan from flame add red chilli powder in it pour this tadka over dal
  • serve hot with rice or chapati
