FISH TENGA

A trditional assamese dish cooked in fresh lime juice. To be had with steamed rice.

Ingredients

Serves : 5
  • 500 gms fish cut into 5-6 pieces


  • 1 potato cut into slices


  • 8-10 ladies finger


  • 4tbsp yellow mustard seeds ground to paste


  • 2 tomatoes finely chopped


  • 1tsp fenugreek seeds


  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar


  • 1 teaspoon turmeric


  • 2 green chilles


  • 2 teaspoon salt (or according to taste)


  • 3-4 lemon juice


  • 1 bunch finely chopped fresh corriander leaves


  • 1 cup mustard oil


  • 2 cups of water

Directions

  • Marinate the fish with turmeric powder & 1 pinch of salt.
  • Heat oil in a kadhai and fry 1-2 fish at a time till brown in colour & crisp.
  • After frying the fish remove all the fish and keep aside
  • Add fenugreek seed to the same oil on medium flame and add the chopped tomatoes to it & cook it for 4-5 minutes
  • Add the potatoes and cook for another 5 minutes
  • Add the ladies finger and green chillies and cook for 2-3 minutes
  • Add salt, turmeric powder, sugar and water and cook on low flame for 10 minutes with covered lid
  • Add the fish and cook for 5 minutes with covered lid
  • Add the fresh lime juice and cook for another 5 minutes
  • Add the mustard paste and stir
  • Remove from gas and garnish with freshly chopped corriander. Serve hot.
