Coffee Cardamom Cake With Coffee Buttercream Frosting

  • 3 tbsp cardamom

  • 3 eggs

  • 2 egg yolks

  • 1/4 cup strong coffee

  • 2 cups flour

  • 1.5 cups sugar

  • 3/4 cup sour cream

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda

  • 220g soft unsalted butter

  • 1 tbsp Sprig vanilla extract

  • for Frosting::: 420g soft unsalted butter

  • 2 teaspoon Sprig vanilla extract

  • 3 cup icing sugar

  • 1/4 cup cold strong coffee

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt


  • All ingredients mentioned in recipe should be at room temperature.Preheat oven to 170 and line two 8 inch cake pans
  • In a bowl, whisk egg yolks, eggs, vanilla extract, sour cream and coffee
  • In a separate bowl, sieve flour, baking soda and salt. Add sugar and Cardamom. Mix well
  • Slowly add butter and mix until mixture resembles coarse sand.
  • Gradually add wet ingredients and mix until just combined
  • Divide the batter and pour into prepared pans. level evenly
  • Bake for 20-30 minutes until done
  • Allow to cool for 30 minutes. Demould and cool completely
  • In a bowl, add 420g butter and blend well
  • Gradually add icing sugar and blend well
  • Add coffee, vanilla extract and salt. Blend well
  • Slice top of cakes. Now place it over serving dish. Start Frosting top layer evenly
  • Place second cake and do crumb coating
  • Chill cake and do final level frosting.
  • Slice and serve
