  • 2-3 nos crabs

  • 150 gms grated coconut

  • 1 nos finely chopped onion

  • 2 tsp finely chopped garlic and ginger

  • 2 nos fresh chillis

  • 6-7 nos dry red chillis (i prefer goan chillis)

  • 1 tsp dry corriander seeds

  • 4 nos peppercorns

  • 4-5 piece dry mango (souring agent) (one can substitute it with tamarind)

  • 2 tsp goan garam masala

  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

  • 2 tsp salt as per taste

  • 3 tsp oil

  • 1 tsp finely chopped corriander leaves for garnishing

  • 50-80 ml water for grinding


  • Wash and clean the crabs. allow it to cook on slow flame (I prefer cooking in a earthen pot) do not add water as the crabs releases their own water.
  • Meanwhile in a pan dry roast the corriander seeds , peppercorn , red chillis and keep it aside for cooling
  • In a same pan add 3tsp of oil, saute ginger garlic for 1min then add finely chopped onion saute it till it turns golden brown color remove it in the plate and allow it to cool
  • In a same pan saute grated coconut untill it turns golden in colour
  • Add all the sauted ingredients alongs with dry roasted masala (from step 2) in a mixer jar and grind it to a medium-fine paste by adding litle water.
  • Add this mixture to the crabs now keep the gas flame on medium
  • Add turmeric , garam masala , green chillis , salt and dry mango
  • Keep it on a medium flame for 10 to 15mins turn off the flame and add corriander leaves. Voila !! Your crabs xec xec is ready to be served
