  • 1 cup moong dhal

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 2 tsp wheat flour

  • 4 to 5 tsp ghee

  • 1 pinch orange food color or kesari powder( here i didn't use this)


  • Dry roast the moong dhal and pressure cook it for 4 whistles. Cool it and mash it well
  • In a pan add ghee and roast the wheat flour ,till you get the roasted smell of wheat flour
  • Now add the cooked moong dhal and mix well with wheat flour
  • In this stage add sugar. The mixture will become watery now.
  • Add ghee and stir continuously... continue adding the ghee in 2 min intervals..
  • In this stage you can add food color. I skipped it bcz i did this for my kids..
  • Stir continuously till the alwa starts to leave the sides of the pan.
  • Our delicious and traditional ashoka alwa is ready for this festive season!!!
