Ingredients

Serves : 4
  • 1 cups whole moong dhal


  • 1 cups jaggery


  • 2 tsp grated coconut


  • 1 pinch cardamom powder


  • 1/2 cups all purpose flour


  • 2 tsp rice flour


  • 1 pinch salt


  • 3/4 cups water


  • 250 ml oil (for frying)

Directions

  • Soak the moong dhal for 2 hrs and pressure cook it for 4 to 5 whistles. Mash it well
  • In a pan add jaggery,coconut,mashed dhal,cardamom powder. Cook until it gets thick.
  • Allow it to cool. Make them into medium size balls.
  • Make thick batter of all purpose flour,rice flour,salt and water.
  • Dip the poornam in batter and fry in the oil. Till it turns crispy.
  • Now our delicious suiyam is ready to serve.
  • Tip: you can also use chena dhal for the poornam
  • This is the traditional diwali dish in Tamil Nadu..
