Rava Pongal with coconut chutney/Sooji Pongal alongwith coconut chutney

Description

Pongal is a very favourite delicacy that is also rich in proteins and is nutritious too. Ven pongal as it is popularly known is a tiffin dish in South India. Ven pongal is made of rice and moong dal seasoned with powdered pepper and jeera seeds. Here we will replace rice with rava or Sooji. You can serve it with sambhar and coconut chutney.

Ingredients

Serves : 2
  • 1 cups roasted rava or sooji


  • 1/4 cups moong dal


  • 1/2 tsp pepper powdered


  • 1/2 tsp jeera seeds or cumin seeds powdered


  • 5 tbsp ghovardhan ghee


  • 15 nos cashewnuts


  • 2 tsp curry leaves


  • 1 tsp salt


  • 1/2 inch ginger grated


  • 2 nos green chillies lengthwise

Directions

  • Place a kadai or wok on the gas stove and now add 2 tablespoons of GHEE when hot add powdered pepper and jeera seeds, when they splutter add the cashewnuts and saute for 2 minutes, now add the curry leaves and grated ginger and slit green chillies. Now fry for a few minutes.
  • Now add the Rava and fry for a few minutes till it turns golden in colour, now add the moong dal and saute for a few minutes.
  • In a pressure pan add the above contents and add 2 cups of water you can also add a 1/4 cup of water if you want it to be very soft and spongy. Now allow for 2 whistles. Add 1 teaspoon of salt
  • You get tasty and healthy and delicious Rava Pongal serve with pipping hot sambhar and coconut chutney.
