For making idlies
Soak rice and urad washed in the ratio 3:1 for 4-5 hours
Grind them separately in a blender
The rice into smooth paste and dal into course .
Mix them together and keep them for fermentation overnight
Once they are fermented ..make idlies in the idly moulds .
For the sambar
Soak toor dal for 15 minutes and after then in a pressure cooker pour this dal along with shallots , chopped tomatoes , salt , turmeric , sambar powder and give 3 whistles
Now for the tadka .in a pan warm the oil and add mustard seeds ..allow them to splutter .
Add curry leaves and dried whole red chillies
Now pour this tadka over the dal ..add tamarind pulp too
Allow them to simmer for 5 minutes
Your sambar is ready
