Ingredients

Serves : 3
  • 3 cups sela rice


  • 1 cups urad dhuli


  • 1 tsp salt


  • 250 gms toor dal


  • 1 tbsp tamrind pulp


  • 1 tsp turmeric powder


  • 1 tbsp sambar powder


  • 5 nos small shallots


  • 3 nos tomatoes chopped


  • 1 nos drum stick chopped


  • drum stick chopped 3 nos


  • 1 tbsp sesame oil


  • 20 gms curry leaves

Directions

  • For making idlies
  • Soak rice and urad washed in the ratio 3:1 for 4-5 hours
  • Grind them separately in a blender
  • The rice into smooth paste and dal into course .
  • Mix them together and keep them for fermentation overnight
  • Once they are fermented ..make idlies in the idly moulds .
  • For the sambar
  • Soak toor dal for 15 minutes and after then in a pressure cooker pour this dal along with shallots , chopped tomatoes , salt , turmeric , sambar powder and give 3 whistles
  • Now for the tadka .in a pan warm the oil and add mustard seeds ..allow them to splutter .
  • Add curry leaves and dried whole red chillies
  • Now pour this tadka over the dal ..add tamarind pulp too
  • Allow them to simmer for 5 minutes
  • Your sambar is ready
