Ingredients

Serves : 2
  • 1 cups rice


  • 1/2 cups tur dal


  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder


  • 2 tsp gingelly oil


  • 2 tsp ghee


  • 1 nos big potato chopped


  • 8 nos beans chopped


  • 1 nos carrot chopped


  • 1 nos tomato


  • 2 tbsp tamarind water


  • 1/2 tsp salt or salt to taste


  • 1/4 tsp mustard seeds


  • 1/4 tsp cumin seeds


  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida


  • 2 sprig sprigs curry leaves


  • 1/2 cups fistful coriander leaves


  • 1/2 tsp sambhar powder


  • 4 cups water

Directions

  • Soak rice and dal together for 10 minutes.
  • Add oil in a pressure cooker on a medium flame.To it add all the vegetables and tomato and saute well.
  • To it add Turmeric Powder and Sambhar powder and mix well.
  • Lastly add soaked rice and dal and saute a minute.Add 4 cups of water and salt to taste and pressure cook for 15 minutes.
  • Rice and vegetables had to be cooked mushy. when the stem subsides add tamarind water and stir continuously for few minutes or raw smell disappear.
  • For tempering,add ghee in a pan on a medium flame.To it add mustard seeds,cumin , asafoetida and curry leaves.
  • Add tempered mixture to the rice dal mixture and gently mix. Garnish it with coriander leaves.
  • Tur Dal and Vegetable Rice is ready to serve.
