  • Rice powder -2cup

  • Boiled water- 2cup

  • Onion-2

  • Mustard-1tsp

  • Red chilli-2nos, Green chillies-4 nos

  • Coconut grated- 2cup

  • Coconut oil-2tbs

  • Salt- 1tsp


  • Sieve the rice powder twice to get a smooth powder.Add little salt into it.
  • Mix the rice powder with boiled water using a wooden spatula to get a tight dough.
  • In a steamer (idli maker)put some grated coconuts as first layer.Then fill the idiyappam maker with the dough and squeeze over the coconut.Again put some coconut over it .
  • Repeat the same process untill the dough finished.
  • After 10 minutes switch off the flame and transfer the idiappams in a plate and break them into small pieces.
  • Slice the onion,and grren chillies into small pieces. In a kadai add coconut oil and add mustard and curry leaves.When mustard brittle add the sliced onion and green chillies and fry till golden brown.
  • Then add salt according to taste and add pieced idiappams into it and mix well.
  • Cook for 2minutes.Then remove from heat .Idiappam upma is ready to serve.
