Mangsho Aloo Jhola (Traditional Odia Style Motton Curry)

  • 250gm motton

  • 3/4tbsp salt

  • 3/4tbsp turmeric powder

  • 1tbsp chilli powder

  • 1/4tbsp sugar

  • 2medium size potatoes

  • 1 onion chopped

  • 1 tomato chopped

  • Masala paste ( 2 medium size onion, 1 medium size garlic, 1inch ginger,1dried chilli, 1/2 inch cinnamon, 1/2tbsp cumin seeds)

  • 1 dried chilli

  • 5 tbsp mustard oil


  • Heat a pressure cooker and add oil to it.
  • Then add sugar to get caramelized and add dried chilli followed by chopped onion.
  • When the onion becomes translucent then add the masala paste and add turmeric powder, chilli powder and salt to it and cook it till the oil separates.
  • Then add the chopped tomato cook for 5minutes.
  • Then add the washed motton to it and cook for about 7-8 min.
  • Then cut the potatoes into cube sizes and add to it. Mix it well and cook for about another 5minutes.
  • Then add water and cover the lid of the pressure cooker and wait for about 3 whistles in low flame.
  • Then your Motton curry is ready and serve hot with rice , roti or traditional odia chakuli pitha.
