Black Chickpea ( kadala ) is very rich in proteins. Kadala vattichath is coconut based spicy dish.The kadala curry is traditionally served during breakfast with puttu. Kadala curry or the black channa curry can also be eaten with roti, chapatti, naan etc.  I like t eat this with hot black tea , taste is unbeatable.

Ingredients

Serves : 3
  • Black chickpea - 1/2 cup


  • Grated coconut - 1/2 cup


  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon


  • Chilly powder - 1 teaspoon


  • Coconut oil - 2 teaspoon


  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 teaspoon


  • Dried red chilly - 1


  • Curry leaves - 12


  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon


  • Garlic - 1 teaspoon


  • Coconut pieces - 1 teaspoon


  • Onion - 1


  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon or to taste


  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon


  • Tomato - 1


  • Garam masala powder - 1/2 teaspoon


  • Black pepper powder - 1/2 teaspoon

Directions

  • Dry roast coconut,coriander powder and chilly powder
  • Alow it to cool and grind it to a smooth paste
  • Wash and cook black chickpea
  • Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds
  • Add ginger, garic, coconut pieces, curry leaves and onion and cook until onion became brown color
  • Add Tomato and salt
  • Add grinded coconut paste
  • When it starts boiling, add cooked chick pea
  • Add Garam masala powder and black pepper powder
