Moong Dal Curry With Fish-head ( Maacher Matha Diye Mugdal in Bengali)

Ingredients

Serves : 4
  • Rohu Fish Head - 1 whole


  • Moong Dal - 1.5 cup


  • Onion-ginger-garlic paste- 3 tablespoon


  • Roasted Cumin Seed powder- 1 tablespoon


  • For Tempering - Whole Garam Masala ( 1cardamom, 1 cinnamon, 2cloves , 1 bayleaf, 1 whole red chilli )


  • Water- 200 ml.


  • Mustard oil - 3 tablespoon


  • Garam Masala Powder - 1teaspoon


  • Green Chilli - 2 (slit)


  • Salt- 2tablespoon / as per taste


  • Sugar - 1teaspoon


  • Turmeric powder - 1teaspoon

Directions

  • Clean rohu fish head.. rub salt, 1 pinch turmeric powder all over the fish head.. set them aside for 5 minutes
  • In a pressure cooker, add moong dal.. dry roast for 2-3 minutes or until it appears slightly brown
  • Add 2 cups water, 1teaspoon salt, 1 pinch turmeric and slitted green chillies
  • Pressure cook on low heat.. after 2 whistle, turn off the heat..
  • After five minutes, release the pressure..
  • Whisk the dal properly
  • In a deep pan heat the mustard oil.. fry the marinated rohu fish..
  • Keep them aside
  • Into the same pan, add rest of the oil if needed... add the whole tempering masalas.
  • After crackling, add onion-ginger-garlic paste
  • Add little bit salt and turmeric powder
  • Add fried rohu fish head
  • Crack the fish heads with the help of spatula
  • Add half of the roasted cumin seed powder
  • Mix them well
  • Now pour the boiled moong dal
  • Mix them and add required amount of water
  • Bring them boil
  • Check the seasoning
  • Add garam masala powder, rest of the roasted cumin seed powder
  • Turn off the heat..
  • Serve hot with steamed rice , accompanied with eggplant fritters, fish fry..
