Serves : 3
  • 1/2 cup semolina

  • 1+1/4 cup water

  • 1/4 cup sugar

  • 1/2 tsp cardamom powder

  • 1 tbsp oil

  • for stuffing: 1/2 cup grated fresh coconut

  • 1/4 cup sugar

  • 1/2 tsp cardamom powder

  • 2 cups oil for deep frying


  • to make stuffing:
  • in a pan, add grated coconut, sugar and cardamom powder
  • fry until sugar melts and the mixture becomes little dry
  • turn off the flame and keep aside
  • to make outer layer:
  • in a kadai add water and sugar, boil it
  • when it starts boiling add semolina, stirring continuously to avoid forming lumps
  • add oil and cardamom powder
  • cook this mixture on low flame for 1 minute
  • remove from flame and keep aside
  • wait till the dough cools down to room tempreture
  • knead again for few seconds to make the dough soft
  • make small balls from the dough
  • flatten slightly and put the stuffing to it, then roll it again to make a ball
  • make the balls into flat shape in between your palms
  • heat oil in a kadai and deep fry the flatten balls on medium flame till it turns golden brown from each side
  • kakara pitha is ready, serve hot or cool
