  • 2 cups urad dal

  • 1 nos chopped onion

  • 1-2 nos green chili chopped

  • 5-6 nos curry leaves,chopped

  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves

  • 1 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1 tbsp chopped ginger

  • 1/2 tsp jeera

  • 1/2 tsp crushed black pepper

  • 1/4 tsp soda

  • 1/4 tsp hing

  • 1 bowls oil for frying


  • Soak urad dal for 4-5 hours.
  • Drain and add soaked urad dal to mixer jar.
  • Grind into fine paste,add little water if required.
  • Next add chopped onion,chopped green chili,chopped ginger,chopped coriander leaves,chopped curry leaves,cumin seeds,crushed bell pepper,hing and baking soda to the urad dal batter.
  • Mix it very well.
  • Now heat the oil in the kadai for frying.
  • After that wet your hands,take vada mix,flatten it and make a hole in the centre.
  • Now drop it in the hot oil.
  • Like this make all vadas of the batter and keep the flame on medium.
  • Now deep fry then from both sides of the vada.
  • When starts getting brown and crisp from both the sides,remove them on the kitchen roll.
  • Serve it with Coconut Chutney or Sambhar.
  • Kids like these Medu Vada with ketchup too.
