Cooker Ghee Rice


Ghee Rice is a common dish among the Keralites in Malabar area. Today I have prepared Malabar style Ghee rice that can easily make in cooker,without wasting more cooking time.I usually have this rice with some spicy and delicious curries like chicken curry.

Serves : 4
  • 1.Jeerakasala Rice/basmati rice - 2 cup (washed and drained)

  • 2.Boiled Water - 3 cup ( for 1 cup rice take 1 1/2 cup water )

  • 3.Spices of your choice

  • 3(a)Cardamom - 5 nos

  • 3(b)Cinnamon stick - 1 small no

  • 3(c)Bay leaves - 2 nos

  • 3(d)Cloves - 7 nos

  • 4.Ghee - 9 to 10 teaspoon

  • 5.Thin sliced onion - 1/2 cup

  • 6.Raisins - 10 to 15 no

  • 7.Cashew nut - 7 to 10 nos

  • 8.Lemon Juice - 1 tablespoon

  • 9.Salt as needed - (1 to 1 1/2 teaspoon


  • Heat a cooker and add 2 to 3 teaspoon of ghee then make the flame into low and add the thin sliced onion and fry thrm till
  • it became light golden shade, along with we can add some cashews and raisins and fry everything till it became golden brown.
  • Remove them in a a plate.If you want you can fry them separately.
  • In the same pan add 4 teaspoon of ghee and when it became hot add the spices and saute them in a low to medium flame.
  • Next add the soaked rice and mix it for 2-3 minutes.Add 2 teaspoon of ghee with the rice and mix again .You can also use cooking
  • oil too.Add lemon juice and mix well. Then add the boiled water along wuth salt as needed .When it starts to boil close the
  • lid and make the flame into low to medium and cook it for one whistle.Open after the vapor goesout completely and add the fried
  • items along with some ghe and gently mix it with the rice.Our tasty and easy ghee rice is ready to serve.
