  • Split urad dal 1/2 cup

  • Split bengal gram dal 1/2 cup

  • Salt to taste

  • Ginger finely chopped 1 inch piece

  • Green chillies chopped

  • Pure ghee 2 tablespoons

  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Red chilli powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Cumin seeds 1/2 teaspoon

  • Garam masala 1 teaspoon

  • Onion chopped1 medium

  • Tomatoes chopped 2 medium

  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped

  • Garlic cloves chopped 5

    Mix both dals, wash and soak in enough water for an hour. Drain.

    After an hour add soaked dals in a deep pan with four cups of water, salt to taste and turmeric powder .

    Cover and cook on low heat till the dals are tender but still semi cooked . switch off the flame.

    Now heat ghee in a separate pan. Add cumin seeds ,green chillies, garlic and ginger.

    Stir and add onion and sauté till onion turns light brown.

    Add tomatoes and saute till the tomatoes soften. Add all spices and saute for half a minute. Add the tempering to the dal and mix.

    Simmer for 5 minutes more and serve hot garnished with coriander leaves.

    Enjoy this yummy dal with naan, chapati, parantha or with rice.
