Ingredients

Serves : 5
  • Split urad dal 1/2 cup


  • Split bengal gram dal 1/2 cup


  • Salt to taste


  • Ginger finely chopped 1 inch piece


  • Green chillies chopped


  • Pure ghee 2 tablespoons


  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon


  • Red chilli powder 1/2 teaspoon


  • Cumin seeds 1/2 teaspoon


  • Garam masala 1 teaspoon


  • Onion chopped1 medium


  • Tomatoes chopped 2 medium


  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped


  • Garlic cloves chopped 5

Directions

  • Mix both dals, wash and soak in enough water for an hour. Drain.
  • After an hour add soaked dals in a deep pan with four cups of water, salt to taste and turmeric powder .
  • Cover and cook on low heat till the dals are tender but still semi cooked . switch off the flame.
  • Now heat ghee in a separate pan. Add cumin seeds ,green chillies, garlic and ginger.
  • Stir and add onion and sauté till onion turns light brown.
  • Add tomatoes and saute till the tomatoes soften. Add all spices and saute for half a minute. Add the tempering to the dal and mix.
  • Simmer for 5 minutes more and serve hot garnished with coriander leaves.
  • Enjoy this yummy dal with naan, chapati, parantha or with rice.
