Ingredients

Serves : 5
  • 1 whole chicken cut into 10-12 pieces


  • 3 tbsp oil


  • 15-17 curry leaves


  • 1/2 cup coriander leaves


  • 1 tsp salt or to taste


  • 2 tbsp chilli powder


  • 2 tablespoon lemon juice


  • 1.5 tbsp ginger garlic paste


  • 3/4 tsp salt or to taste


  • Coriander powder 1.5 tbsp


  • 1.5 teaspoon garam masala


  • 1 teaspoon turmeric


  • 2 teaspoon fennel seeds


  • 2 tablespoon sesame seeds


  • 2 mace


  • 3-4 green cardamom


  • 2 black cardamom


  • 1 teaspoon jeera


  • 2 teaspoon peppercorns


  • 1 inch cinnamon stick


  • 5-6 dry red chilli


  • 4-5 cloves


  • 2 teaspoon poppy seeds


  • 1/2 cup grated coconut


  • 1 star anise


  • 2 tbsp oil


  • 1/2 kg onions


  • 3-4 medium tomatoes chopped

Directions

  • In a bowl add chilli powder, ginger garlic paste, turmeric, salt, lemon juice, coriander powder and garam masala. Mix well. add chicken and marinate for 30 minutes to 1 hour
  • Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan. Add all whole spices, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, dry red chilli and saute for a minute
  • Add coconut, onions, little salt and roast until golden brown
  • Allow to cool completely. Grind mixture with chopped tomatoes and adequate water to form smooth puree
  • Heat 3 tbsp oil in a pan, add curry leaves and saute for few seconds. Add ground puree. Cook for 4-5 minutes until oil seperates
  • Add chicken, salt and required water. Mix well
  • Bring to boil. Cover and cook until chicken is tender, stirring occasionally
  • Add coriander leaves and mix well
  • Garnish with fresh coriander leaves. Serve hot with rice, bhakri or chapatis
