Ingredients

Serves : 4
  • 1 1/2 cup black chana( soaked overnight)


  • 1 large onion chopped


  • 1 tomato chopped


  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste


  • 1 tsp green chilly paste


  • 1tsp red chilly powder


  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder


  • 1 tsp chana masala or meat masala


  • 1 cinnamon stick


  • 1 tsp cumin powder


  • 1 tsp mustard seeds


  • 1 bay leaf

Directions

  • Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. when it splutter add cinnamon stick, bay leaf and ginger garlic paste. saute for a minute.
  • Meanwhile , pressure cook black chana for 3 whistles with 2.5 cup of water and 1 tsp salt.
  • When the raw smell of ginger garlic goes away add chopped onion and salt. Let the onion turn golden brown.
  • Add tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chilly powder, cumin powder and gently mix it.
  • Take out some of the black chana and grind it coarsely. Add it into the tomatoes when the oil starts separating.
  • Transfer the chana into the pan and mix it gently (reserve the water). cover for a minute.
  • Add the chana masala or meat masala and mix it. Next add the reserved water and bring it to boil.
  • serve hot with rice and sliced onion.
