Arbi Leaves Patra (Alu Wadi In Marathi)

  • Colocassia leaves or Arbi leaves 5-6

  • Besan 2 cups

  • Tamarind paste 1 tablespoon

  • Carrom seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Salt 1 teaspoon

  • Sesame seeds 2 teaspoons

  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

  • Mustard seeds 1 teaspoon


  • Wash arbi leaves and remove its stem
  • Using a rolling pin , flatten arbi leaves veins
  • Assemble all the required ingredients
  • In a mixing bowl take besan, tamarind paste, all spices , amd salt to taste
  • Mix well and prepare a thick paste
  • Now apply this paste on arbi leaf and keep another leaf on it
  • Like wise repeat the process and Laslty prepare a bundle of it and seal the open ends
  • Steam them in microwave or in regular steamer just like idli or dhokla ... For 10-15 minutes
  • Let them cool for sometime amd then cut in rings
  • Later, heat oil , add mustard seeds and sesame seeds
  • Shallow fry all cut rolls till properly coated and crisp from all sided
  • Garnish as you like amd serve hot or cold ... It tastes equally tasty .
  • It's a traditional Maharashtrian Speciality which is frequently prepared in monsoon season when the Colocassia leaves are readily available
