Ingredients

Serves : 6
  • Basmati rice 500gm.

  • Rajma/kidney beans about 250gm soaked overnight.

  • Garlic mince 1 tbsp.

  • Onions 2 large finely chopped.

  • Salt 1-2 tbsp or to taste.

  • Bay leaves 2, cinnamon sticks 2 and cardamom pods 3 along with caraway seeds to be added in the rice when boiling 1 tsp

  • Ghee or Oil about 3 to 4 tbsp

  • Coriander and mint leaves finely chopped 1/2 cup

  • Cumin seeds 1 tsp

  • Green chillies slit 3 to 4 or red chilli flakes a tbsp

  • Garam masala powder 1 tbsp.

Directions

  • Cook rice al dente with the whole spices except bay leaves. Drain and keep aside.
  • Pressure cook rajma with little salt or just boil it taking care not to over do that.
  • In a non stick pot, heat oil or ghee, add the cumin seeds and bay leaves. Next add the onions and saute them nicely. Next add the masalas and the boiled rajma.
  • Add the cooked rice and give it all a thorough mix. Garnish with coriander and mint leaves. Sprinkle garam masala on top. Dish it out pretty much hot with tawa chicken as i did. Any gravy or curry can be used instead as per your family's preference and choice.
  • Healthy and nutritious option for the kids and the adults alike. Try this beauty for lunch or dinner. It tastes just yum with any simple chicken dish. I always make tawa chicken with this. An interesting pulao that is loaded with protiens and is a lovely alternative to the boring rice dishes. Flavourful and aromatic plus colourful appearance of this rice preparation makes it stand out in the crowd.
