Slice the ivy gourd and into it add the powdered spices, green chilly and keep aside.
Heat oil and add the curry leaves, urad dal, mustard seeds, garlic and let the mustard seeds splutter.
Add the onions and allow them to cook
Add the tomato and cook for a minute.
Add the ivy gourd and fry for a minute
Add 150 ml water, turn the heat to low, cover the pan and allow it to cook for good 15 minutes.
Add salt, grated coconut, mix well,cook for few seconds on high flame. serve hot with meals or with rotis
