Ingredients

Serves : 2
  • For fish- Hilsha 4 pieces


  • onion chopped 1/2 cup


  • onion paste 3 tablespoon


  • ginger paste 1 tablespoon


  • garlic paste 1 tablespoon


  • red chilli powder 1 tbsp


  • 4 green chillies slitted


  • sweetened yoghurt 1/4 Cup whisked well


  • coconut milk 1 cup


  • Ghee 3 tablespoon


  • salt 1 tablespoon


  • For pulao rice- gobindovog or any aromatic rice 2cups/500 gm.


  • Milk of coconut 1 cup


  • 2 green chillies


  • clarified butter/ghee 1 tbsp


  • salt 1 teaspoon


  • warm water 3 cups


  • whole Garam Masala- bay leaf 1


  • cinnamon stick 2 inches


  • green cardamom 5, crushed


  • clove 6, pounded


  • Mace 2 blades

Directions

  • soak rice in water for 15 minutes
  • heat 3 tbsp ghee in wok and fry chopped onion until translucent.
  • add ginger and garlic paste with red chili powder and fry until oil separates.
  • add yoghurt salt and stir well.
  • pour half of coconut milk and stir quickly to incorporate everything.
  • Add raw fish pieces into the gravy very carefully
  • add green chilli and cook for 5 minutes
  • flip Hilsa pieces gently as Hilsa is extremely delicate and fragile.
  • Add rest of the coconut milk and cook for 10 minutes with cover.
  • once done, keep the fish covered until needed.
  • heat 1 tbsp ghee and add whole Garam Masala.
  • now add half of the gravy from Hilsa along with warm water. Bring the mixture to boil.
  • Add previously soaked rice into the mixture and at least cook for 10 to 12 minutes until rice is half cooked.
  • Add salt and cook with cover for another 10 minutes.
  • Now arrange the Hilsa pieces on bed of rice and put the Gravy on it.
  • Add green chillies.Cover and cook for 5 to 7 minutes on simmer.
  • once done, remove from flame and serve.
