Ingredients

Serves : 4
  • 1 cup long grain basmati rice


  • 1/2 cup whole red lentils/masoor


  • 2 big round potatoes


  • 2 pinch of Saffron


  • 4 tbsp oil or as required


  • 2 tsp Salt or to taste

Directions

  • Soak rice and masoor separately for 1/2 n hour
  • Boil rice in enough water and salt until half cooked
  • Boil masoor in water and salt until 3/4th done (almost done but firm)
  • Peel potatoes cut them in rounds of medium thickness
  • Soak saffron in lukewarm water for 10 minutes
  • Now your basic preparation is done
  • In a non stick vessel put 2 tbsp oil, arrange potato slices in such a way that they cover entire base and side of the pan. Sprinkle some salt.
  • Mix red lentils and rice together, spread it on the potato layer
  • Add half cup water gently and remaining oil from all sides.
  • Put the bowl of soaked saffron on top
  • Cover and cook for 45 on slow flame. Open the lid and pour saffron water and close the lid again for 15 minutes. Once done leave it like that for few minutes.
  • Remove the lid, turn the vessel upside down on a flat tray or plate.
  • You will have a firm, like cake adas polow with crispy potato layer on top.
  • Serve it with meat curry or yoghurt raita.
  • You can prepare this in electric rice cooker too
