Malabar Style Varutharacha Chicken Curry

Ingredients

Serves : 4
  • 500 gms chicken


  • 2 tsp coriander powder


  • 1 tsp chili powder


  • 1 tsp pepper powder


  • 1 tsp garam masala


  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder


  • 1/4 tsp fenned seeds


  • 1 tsp lemon juice


  • 2 tsp salt


  • 3 tbsp oil


  • 2 tsp ginger garlic crushed


  • 2 nos medium sized ripe guava


  • 8 nos shallots


  • 1 nos tomato ,medium sized


  • 2 nos green chillies


  • 3 sprig curry leaves


  • 3/4 cups fresh grated coconut

Directions

  • Dry roast coriander powder, chilli powder, turmeric powder and Pepper powder
  • Clean chicken pieces well and marinate it with this dry roasted masalas ,lemon juice and required salt for almost 3 hours
  • Mean while heat a pan and add 1 table spoon of oil and saute shallots and few curry leaves.
  • Add fresh grated coconut and fry till nice and golden brown in colour.keep this aside and grind it into a smooth paste when it cools down.
  • Heat a pan and add two tblspn of oil.add fennel seeds and sliced onion.Add few more curry leaves and saute this till onion becomes golden brown in colour
  • Now add green chillies and crushed ginger and garlic.saute this well till the raw smell goes
  • Now add sliced tomatoes and saute it well till tomatoes are mushy.Now add marinated chicken and give a nice mix.add little water and cook till chicken is half done
  • Now add coconut paste and garam masala.give a nice mix and adjust its consistency by adding enough water.Add salt if needed.
  • Boil it till chicken is done and oil separates.
  • Note : Adjust spiciness according to your taste and in malabar chicken curry there won't be any seasoning
