Ingredients

Serves : 4
  • 100 gms thick flattened/beaten rice (poha)


  • 150 gms coriander leaves with stems


  • 2 tbsp freshly grated/ desiccated coconut


  • 2 nos green chillies chopped fine


  • 1 pinch turmeric powder


  • 1 pinch asafoetida


  • 1/2 tbsp jaggery powder


  • 1 nos juice of lemon


  • 1/4 tsp mustard seed


  • 1/4 tsp cumin seeds


  • 1/2 tsp split black gram (urad daal)


  • 1 sprig curry leaves


  • 1/2 tsp oil


  • 1 1/2 tsp salt


  • 1/2 cups water, more if needed

Directions

  • Wash the flattened rice, drain completely and keep aside.
  • Dry grind grated coconut, roughly chopped coriander leaves, green chilies, jaggery, lemon juice without adding water to make a coarse mixture.
  • Heat oil in a nonstick pan. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and allow to splutter.
  • Add black gram,curry leaves, asafoetida and turmeric powder and fry for few seconds.
  • Next add green peas and saute for 1 to 2 minutes. Now the beaten rice, salt and mix well.
  • Finally add the coriander mixture and mix till everything well incorporated.
  • Cook covered for 2 to 3 minutes and then turn off the heat.
  • Serve hot with curd if desired or just the dish is very flavourful. Enjoy!
