Serves : 4
  • 1 kgs chicken

  • 2 nos onions,thinly sliced

  • 1 tbsp ginger paste

  • 1/2 tbsp garlic paste

  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder

  • 1 tsp cumin powder

  • 1/2 tbsp coriander powder

  • 1 tsp salt or to taste

  • 1 tsp green chillies paste

  • 3 nos large tomatoes finely chopped

  • 1 cups yogurt

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 1 tsp garam masala powder

  • 1 sprig coriander leaves chopped

  • 1 tbsp kasuri methi crushed

  • 1/2 cups mustard oil

  • 1 tsp shahi zeera

  • 2 nos bay leaves


  • Heat oil in a handi. Add Zeera and bay leaves and let it splutter.
  • Add onions and fry till golden. Add ginger paste, garlic paste and green chillies paste and stir till the raw smell goes off.
  • Now add the tomatoes and cook till mushy
  • Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder and salt and mix. Sprinkle some water and let the mixture release oil.
  • Add whisked yogurt and stir.
  • Now add the chicken pieces and mix well till the gravy coats the chicken pieces.
  • Add a cup of water and cook the chicken in low flame till done.
  • Once the chicken is tender, reduce the gravy is needed.
  • Add Garam masala, Kasuri Methi and mix. Garnish with Fresh coriander leaves
  • Serve with steamed rice or paratha or roti
