Mix milk and vanilla together on low heat. do not boil
Beat sugar, egg and egg yolks until pale and frothy in a seperate bowl using hand or stand mixer
Add 1/4 cup of warm milk mixture to egg mix and blend well
Now pour the egg mixture to milk and return saucepan to heat
Stir constantly on low to medium heat until it starts thickening. do not boil. remove vanilla pods from mixture if using it
Allow to cool completely. Add cream and blend well. Pour in chilled air tight container and freeze for 2 hours
Blend once again and freeze for 6-7 hours or overnight. scoop and serve
