  • 1/2 kgs muton (goat meat)

  • 2 nos onion

  • 1 nos tomatoes

  • 4 tsp pepper corns

  • 1/2 cups fennel seeds

  • 1/2 tsp cummin seeds

  • 1/2 inch cinnamon

  • 1/2 inch ginger

  • 2 nos cloves

  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder

  • 4 tsp oil

  • 1/4 cups coconut,shredded

  • 1/2 tsp salt(to taste)

  • 2 sprig curry leaves

  • 3 nos garlic cloves

  • 3 cups water


  • Heat oil in a wok and add pepper corns and let it splutter. Add other spices and roast for two minutes. Add chopped (11/2)onions, ginger, garlic and coconut and saute well. Switch off the flame and let it cool. Blend well in a mixer and keep it aside.
  • Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add chopped onion (1/2) and saute well for a minute. Add chopped tomatoes and saute well till its mushy. Add blended mixture, mutton, turmeric powder and salt to taste and mix well with 3 cups of water and cook for 15 minutes.
  • When steam settles down, remove the lid and cook for few minutes and garnish it with curry leaves. Chettinad Mutton Gravy is ready to serve with hot rice or rotis.
