Dates pitted and halved lengthwise 200 gms
Walnuts slightly crushed 80 gms
Whole wheat flour 50 gms
plain flour 50 gms
Unrefined cane sugar or brown sugar 100 gms
Butter at room temperature 100 gms
Eggs(at room temperature) 2 nos
Honey 2 tsp
Baking powder 1 tsp
Cinnamon 1/2 tsp
Nutmeg 1/2 tsp
Vanilla essence 1 tsp
Hot milk 100 ml
Salt 1 pinch
Place the dates in a bowl and add hot milk . Cover and keep aside for half an hour
Mix together the butter and sugar in a bowl .
Add the eggs one at a time and beat to a smooth mixture
Add the honey and mix
Sift the flours, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and baking powder into the mixture. Combine gently till a uniform cake mixture is formed. Add the vanilla essence also.
Drain the dates and mix with walnuts. .
Fold in this dates and walnuts mixture into the cake mixture.
Pour the cake mixture into a greased cake tin.
Bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius for 15 minutes. Then lower temperature to 160 degrees Celsius and bake for 35 to 40 minutes.
Check if cake is cooked with skewer or toothpick.-It should come out clean
When cool remove from tin .
Cut and serve.
