Moong Dal Halwa

Serves : 4
  • 1 cups yellow moong dal,washed

  • 1 cups sugar

  • 1 tsp cardamom powder

  • 1 pinch saffron(infused in 2 tbsp of warm milk)

  • 1 cups water

  • 1 cups milk

  • 1-2 tbsp sliced almonds/pista for garnish


  • Wash dal thoroughly and soak in water for at least 4 hours.
  • Drain the water and blend dal into a coarse thick paste, adding just enough water to roate the blender.
  • Add ghee in a pan and once its hot add the moong dal paste and mix well and cook in medium flame untill its become nice
  • golden brown color.This may take 45 min.
  • Add sugar and cardomom powder and mix well.
  • Boil milk and water and add to the halwa and mix well.
  • Add safrron infused milk and cover and cook for 20 min.
  • Remove cover and stir well and turn off the heat.
  • Garnish with almonds.
  • NOTES: Halwa tastes best if it is served warm.
