Ingredients

Serves : 4
  • 2 nos tapioca/yuca/cassava/kappa


  • 2 nos green chilly (slit)


  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder


  • 1 sprig curry leaves


  • 1/2 cups grated cococnut


  • 4-5 nos small onion/shallots(sliced)


  • 2 nos garlic cloves(crushed)


  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds


  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds


  • 1 tbsp coconut oil


  • 1 tsp salt some to taste


  • 1 kgs chicken(homely style chicken curry)


  • 400 gms onion(homely style chicken curry)


  • 20 gms green chili(homely style chicken curry)


  • 20 gms ginger(homely style chicken curry)


  • 3 tsp coriander powder(homely style chicken curry)


  • 2 tsp chili powder(homely style chicken curry)


  • 2 tsp chicken masala powder(homely style chicken curry)


  • 2 sprig curry leaves(homely style chicken curry)


  • 150 ml coconut oil (homely style chicken curry)


  • 1 tsp salt ,some to taste(homely style chicken curry)


  • 1 1/2 litre coconut milk(homely style chicken curry)


  • 1 pinch turmeric powder(homely style chicken curry)

Directions

  • KAPPA: Clean tapioca /kappa and chop into small cubes.
  • Pour enough water to the cleaned tapioca so that all the pieces will be immersed completely,cook uncovered and allow to boil.
  • When the water boils,remove and drain the water and again add the same amount of water, salt to taste, turmeric powder and cook till it turns to very soft.Drain off excess water from cooked tapioca.
  • Meanwhile grind coarsely grated coconut, green chillies, dry red chillies, garlic, shallots, cumin seeds and turmeric powder.Pulses in mixer grinder for couple of times. No need to add water.
  • Then transfer the cooked tapioca pieces to a pan and keep it in a very low flame. Add ground coconut mixture and using the back side of a wooden spoon, mash the tapioca pieces well mixing and remove from the flame.
  • Then heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. When it crackles, add curry leaves and dry red chillies and pour the seasoning to the cooked tapioca.
  • Homely Style Chicken Curry :Cut the chicken into medium pieces and marinate it with a little chilli powder and salt for a while. Make the first and second extract of coconut milk.
  • Heat kadai (pan), add coconut oil and saute sliced onions, green chilli, ginger, garlic and curry leaves.
  • Then add chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and chicken masala powder. Put the chicken pieces in the kadai till it is half done.
  • Add the second extract of coconut milk and get it cooked gently in slow fire.
  • Finally add the first extract of coconut milk and serve hot
