Tomato Onion Chutney

Description

This chutney is a bit tangy and spicy in flavour. This goes well with South Indian breakfast dishes like idli and Dosa. The aromatic flavours of sautéed Onion, tomato and dried chilly is something to be tried and tasted.

Ingredients

Serves : 1
  • 1 cups ripe red tomato - sliced


  • 1/2 cups onion - sliced


  • 2 nos garlic,sliced


  • 1-2 nos whole dried red chilies


  • 1 tsp chana dal (split chickpeas)


  • 1 tsp grated coconut


  • 1 tbsp mustard


  • 1 sprig curry leaves


  • 1 cups oil


  • 1 tsp salt,to taste

Directions

  • In a frying pan, add oil and fry the chana daal lightly. To this add the dried chillies, afterwards add the sliced onion and garlic, saut? well. Add a pinch of salt. To this add the sliced tomatoes and saut? till the oil separates. Leave this mixture to cool.
  • When the mixture cools down, add the grated coconut to this and grind to a smooth paste.
  • In a clean pan, heat oil and splutter mustard seeds. Add the curry leaves and saut?. To this add the ground mixture, salt to taste and mix. Switch off the flame after two or three minutes.
  • Tasty Tomato Onion Chutney is ready. Serve with Dosa or idli. Enjoy ?
