Puttu, rice steam cake, with green gram/ Payaru is a very popular breakfast combination in Kerala.
It is simple to make and a healthy, protein rich combination.
Here I am sharing the recipe of a simple green gram (Payaru/moong daal) curry.

Ingredients
Serves : 2
100 gms green gram
1-2 nos onion
2-3 nos garlic cloves
1-2 nos green chilly
1-2 pinch turmeric
1 pinch chilly powder
1 tsp salt
2-3 tbsp for seasoning:oil
1-2 nos dry red chilies
1 sprig curry leaves
1-2 tsp mustard seeds
Directions
Wash and soak the green gram in water for half an hour.
Pressure cook the green gram with sliced onion, garlic, green chilly, a pinch of turmeric and salt.
In a pan, burst mustard seeds, add sliced onion, dried chilies and curry leave, saute well.
When done, add a pinch of red chilly powder and saute . When the raw smell is give, add the cooked green gram. Add water depending on how thick or thin you want the gravy.
