Ingredients

Serves 2

  • Coriander Seeds 1 tsp

  • Split Bengal Gram 1 1/2 tsp

  • Urad Dal 1/2 tsp

  • Asafoetida 1/2 tsp

  • Cooked Rice 2 cups

  • Oil 1 tbsp

  • Mustard Seeds 1/2 tsp

  • chopped onion 1/2 cups

  • Curry Leaves 2 nos

  • Green Chili(chopped) 2 nos

  • Tomato Puree 1 cups

  • Salt 1/2 tsp

  • Coriander Leaves,chopped 1 tsp

Directions

    Take spice powders red chilly, split bengal gram, urad dal and coriander seeds in a small pan . Turn the heat on low flame and saute. Dry roast till dal turns brown and till you get a nice aroma from coriander seeds. If the dal stays raw, it won't taste good at all.

    Let them cool completely. Grind them into a fine powder.

    Making tomato rice:

    Heat the pan with oil, add mustard seeds and let them pop.

    Then add chopped onions, green chilies and curry leaves, saute well.

    Add salt and let the onions turn light brown.

    Add pureed tomatoes , cook till all the moisture from tomatoes evaporates and oil starts to leaves from sides.

    Add spice powder, Mix well and cook for a minute.

    Add cooked rice , mix gently .

    flame off and add pinch of asafoetida.

  • 11

    Add chopped coriander leaves over it. mix gently.

  • 12

    Serve hot with rice flakes, dried curd chilly fry, raita(salad)/ pickle.
