When we grind surplus dosa batter, initial days we start with iddli and then dosa . But your husband or kids may not love if the 3 rd day again goes with normal dosa or iddli. All need varieties, different taste to stimulate their taste buds. So , here it is. There are different kinds of uthappam/Oothappams with carrots, tomatoes and more. We are going to make simple onion oothappam. Method: Mix salt to the batter Add onions, ginger and chillies to the batter and combine well. Take a pan, drizzle/ brush gingelly oil , make dosa brush some oil over top of dosa too. Cover it with a lid for 15 seconds, flip it As seen it pic, it gets into a beautiful colour, shift to a plate serve hot with chutney or sambar You even don't need any curry to have it since it have a good flavor of its own

Ingredients

Serves : 3
  • 3 cups dosa batter(dosa batter is prepared by soaking 3 cups of raw rice and 1 cup of urad dal for 4 hours , grind it and has to kept over night.)


  • 1 cups onion finely chopped


  • 3 tbsp ginger,grated


  • 2 tbsp green chilly,chopped


  • 3 tbsp gingelly oil(gingelly oil gives the right flavour while toasting dosas.)


  • 1 tsp salt

Directions

  • mix onion, ginger and chilly to the batter
  • Combine very well
  • Take batter in a tawa and make dosas. Let it be little thick. cover it with a lid
  • that bubble tells you its time to flip it
  • flip dosa and let it be there for 10 seconds
  • yes, its ready , you will get an amazing aroma at this stage
  • can eat all alone without any sides
  • Or can be served it Sambar or Chutney
