  • 1/2 cups all purpose flour

  • 1/2 cups whole wheat flour

  • 1/2 cups sugar

  • 1/4 cups orange juice

  • 1/4 cups oil

  • 1/2 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

  • 1/4 cups thick curd/yoghurt

  • 1 tsp orange zest

  • 1/4 tsp vanilla essence

  • 1/2 cups for orange syrup: orange juice

  • 1/2 cups sugar

  • 1 nos orange peel of orange cut into thin strips (scrap and take off the white segments from the peel)


  • Take the curd and baking soda in a bowl, stir well and make it smooth. Keep aside while you make ready the other ingredients.
  • Sieve the flours and baking powder and keep aside.
  • Add sugar and oil in the curd mixture and let sugar melt. Add the vanilla essence. Add the dry ingredients into it and make a smooth batter. Add the orange zest and mix gently.
  • Grease a cake pan and preheat oven @180° for 10 mins.
  • Pour the batter into the greased pan and bake for 35-40 mins. A toothpick inserted should come out clean.
  • For orange syrup - In a sauce pan add the orange juice, sugar and thin orange strips and bring to boil. Cook till the Syrup thicken little bit for about 10-15 mins. Now take out 4-5 tbsp and let the remaining syrup thicken further till you get a thick syrup glaze like consistency.
  • Use a toothpick to poke holes in the top of the cake, then pour the warm strained syrup all over the cake so that it soaks through.
  • Use a spatula to spread the thick glaze over the top of the cake. Place cake on a serving platter, and arrange the orange strips, cut and serve.
