Ingredients

Serves 4

  • Bittergourd 250 gms

  • Grated Coconut 1 cups

  • Tamarind 100 gms

  • Dry red chilly 2 nos

  • Shallots (chopped) 5 nos

  • Green chillies (chopped) 4 nos

  • Mustard seeds 1 tsp

  • Curry leaves 2 sprig

  • turmeric powder 1/4 tsp

  • Coriander powder 1/2 tsp

  • Red chilly powder 1/2 tsp

  • Coconut oil 3 tsp

  • Water 2 cups

  • Salt to taste 1 pinch

Directions

    Wash pavakka thoroughly and chop them into small pieces

    Soak tamarind in 1 cup of water for 10 minutes

    Strain and filter the tamarind juice and keep this aside

  • 04

    Heat some oil in a pan and add pavakka, green chilly, salt and turmeric powder and fry for 5 minutes

    Heat a pan add some oil and fry the coconut, shallots for 4 minutes till it become golden brown

  • 06

    Add red chilly powder and coriander powder and saute for a while till the raw smell goes off

  • 07

    Grind it with water in to a smooth paste

  • 08

    Add this paste into the pavakka mixture and cook for 5 minutes

    Then add tamarind pulp, water and salt

  • 10

    Cook for 5 minutes

    Take a pan heat some oil add mustard seeds, chopped shallots, dry red chillies and curry leaves

  • 12

    Pour this seasoning to the pavakka curry

  • 13

    Pavakka theeyal is ready to be served
